Tormund

Tormund, played by Kristofer Hivju, took over as leader of the Wildlings following the death of Mance Rayder. He is fiercely loyal to his people.

Tormund commands an army of blue-collar free-folk who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty. Tormund himself is a powerful and imposing figure who you wouldn’t want to meet in single combat.

He’ll never sit on the Iron Throne, but his workmanlike attitude makes him an easy fan favorite.

The parallel between Tormund and Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald is obvious. Fitzgerald’s Wildcats are a group of blue-collar players with excellent fundamentals. Like the Wildlings, they’re never going to have the best players or weapons, but they make very few mistakes and will never back down from a fight.

Northwestern takes its cues from its fiery head coach, who, like Tormund, is an imposing figure in his own right. A one-on-one fight with either sounds right unpleasant, and I might take my chances with Tormund before challenging Fitzgerald.
