5. Jake Fromm

Outside of Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa and maybe one other quarterback who doesn’t immediately jump to mind, there is no one in the country you would rather have leading your team than Jacob Fromm.

So this is a non-story, right? Not so fast.

In 2017 and 2018, Georgia had former five-star recruits Jacob Eason and Justin Fields as backups. Since then, Eason has returned to his home state, Washington, where he hopes to play for Chris Peterson and the Huskies.

Fields, whose talents were coveted perhaps unlike any college quarterback recruit since Cam Newton, ultimately chose to stay home and play for the Bulldogs. But after a disappointing year behind Fromm, Fields got antsy and transferred to Ohio State, where he has been granted a waiver to play immediately.

Long story short: the Bulldogs were sitting pretty in 2017 and 2018. If one goes down, just bring in the five-star backup. That’s how Fromm came to be. Now, should Fromm go down, there is only Dwan Mathis, a four-star true freshman, and Stetson Bennett from Jones County Community College in Ellsville, Mississippi. This will certainly be a story to follow throughout spring and into the fall.
