3. New faces

The lead dog hasn’t changed. But there will be new faces on the sideline as the Bulldogs begin the 2019 season.

In addition to beginning 2019 with a bevy of new players, the Bulldogs will also enter the season with two new coordinators, following the departure of offensive coordinator Jim Chaney, who left to take the same position at SEC East rival Tennessee, and defensive coordinator Mel Tucker, who is now the head coach at Colorado.

The 2019 season will see James Coley, previously quarterbacks coach, leading the offensive side of the ball. Dan Lanning, promoted from outside linebackers coach, will serve as defensive coordinator.

These coaching moves offer the Bulldogs continuity as they seek to take the next step forward. On the flip side, detractors might say these hires are a step back from Chaney and Tucker, who had more experience than their replacements.

Changing coordinators on both sides of the ball is certainly something to keep an eye on as Georgia moves toward fall 2019. It’s certainly enticing to imagine what Fromm and the Bulldogs could do should Coley open up the offense a little bit, eschewing the traditional downhill attack and integrating a little more up-tempo spread.
