2019 NFL Mock Draft: Quarterbacks rising in first round of NFL Draft
By Phil Poling
Michigan’s Rashan Gary continues to be one of the biggest question marks of the 2019 NFL Draft. Which player will the franchise that drafts him get? The No. 1 recruit out of high school that oozed potential? Or the self-proclaimed pass-rusher who only racked up 10.5 career sacks at Michigan?
The Giants can’t pass up on the New Jersey-native twice, selecting Gary with the 17th-overall pick. He’ll follow recently-acquired safety Jabrill Peppers for the third time in his career, first at Paramus Catholic High School, then Michigan, and now, the Giants.
At 6-foot-4 and 277 pounds, Gary posted the fastest 40-yard dash time for a player his size. That’s the athleticism team’s see from Gary and desire, but are fearful won’t follow him into training camp. He’s got all the tools, though. It’s simply just about production.
The Giants 3-4 defensive front might not be ideal for Gary, but his versatility allows him to play the outside linebacker role. And if his role as a pass rusher is defined, Gary could blossom into a star.
