2019 NFL Mock Draft: Quarterbacks rising in first round of NFL Draft
By Phil Poling
Second-year head coach Mike Vrabel selects Florida State’s Brian Burns with the 19th-overall pick, shoring up a pass rush that was middle of the pack in 2018. Vrabel knows a thing or two about defense, too, having played an All-Pro career himself.
Burns will likely play outside linebacker for the Titans, standing up instead of having a hand in the dirt like a defensive end. His athleticism at 6-foot-5 will allow him to drop into coverage, but he’ll have the most success getting after the passer.
If the former Seminole develops some consistency rushing the passer, the Titans could be a real threat to take the division in 2019. Jurrell Casey and Wesley Woodyard are central to the plan, but athletes like Burns can make their jobs easier.
Career sack totals of 23 don’t scream, “NFL’s next great pass rusher,” but given the right opportunity, Burns has as good a shot as anybody in this class.
