Penn State Football: 3 things to watch during 2019 Blue-White game
By Shane Lunnen
1. The return of Matt Millen
Taking place off the field, former Penn State and NFL great Matt Millen returns to the Big Ten Network booth for color commentary. If you do not know Millen’s story, the video is worth a watch.
Millen had suffered from the rare heart ailment called amyloidosis, which only affects a few thousand people every year. It creates an abnormal protein that can collect in organs and causes dysfunction. Essentially his heart valves were not working correctly and he needed a heart transplant.
Millen left the BTN announcing rotation last fall to focus on his health as he awaited a transplant. He was admitted to ICU in October and finally after a year plus of waiting, he underwent successful transplant surgery on Christmas Eve.
Millen has been a presence in college and pro football for decades. He has a strong connection to Penn State, the football program and its fan community. It will be great to see him back calling the action from the booth when Penn State takes the field.
