Yes, Kellen Mond is the starter. Yes, he had a great showing at the spring game despite a first play interception. He finished strong and showed why he is the starter, there is no questioning that. His spring game was completed with a 14-for-26 stat sheet for 172 yards, two touchdowns (one to Camron Buckley and the other to Glenn Beal) and an interception by Clifford Chattman.

There are three quarterbacks competing for that back up spot behind Kellen Mond and out of the three of them, true freshman Zach Calzada probably shined the most and as a result upped his stock in terms of grabbing that spot. Calzada completed 8 -of-21 attempts for 139 yards and a 31-yard touchdown pass to freshman tight end Baylor Cupp.

“You see arm talent,” Fisher said after the game. “He has the ability to run the football. He can make all the throws and he’s learning the command of what he’s doing. We put him in two-minute today, which he has not done a lot of and I thought he did a nice job.”
