No. 4: Leddie Brown | Running Back

Running back Leddie Brown didn’t get a single carry for the Gold squad in the first half of the spring game, but the tide turned after the break. His 11 second half carries tied Martell Pettaway for the most on the day, and he managed a team-high 34 yards.

The sophomore’s strong showing Saturday is something the head coach has been proud of since taking over. “Leddie had a really nice day and showed what he has shown us all spring. He has been really consistent, and when I use that word consistent, I think that is one of the best ways I can describe someone on our football team, and he has been consistent.”

Brown’s the third-leading returning rusher for the Mountaineers, though, so nothing is locked up heading into the summer. Both Pettaway and Kennedy McKoy out-paced Brown a season ago and are back for another round. But it’s obvious Brown is right there with them, even if he is the youngest of the trio.

Although Brown racked up nearly 500 rushing yards last season, there were only three games that he had double-digit carries. Doing so in the spring game gives us reason to believe not only that he’s capable of shouldering the workload, but that Neal Brown is willing to give it to him.
