5. Tyson Campbell’s growth

Former five-star Tyson Campbell had an up-and-down freshman season with Georgia, as most young corners thrust into action early on do. He earned some immediate playing time with strong showings in fall camp, and flashed plenty of potential to be an eventual lock-down corner in the SEC.

He was benched multiple times throughout the season, eventually being sent to the bench for good during the Auburn game in November. He jumped back into the staring lineup for the Sugar Bowl with Deandre Baker’s decision to sit out the bowl game in preparation for the NFL Draft.

With Baker’s departure, Campbell is obviously the favorite to grab the vacated starting spot alongside redshirt sophomore Eric Stokes. He’ll be competing with several other talented players for that spot, though, including juniors Mark Webb and Deangelo Gibbs and senior Tyrique McGhee.

Campbell has the most upside, though, and the staff would prefer if he develops enough to grab the job. He has all the physical tools in the world, but he has to get the mental side of the game down so as to avoid costly mistakes that could ultimately be the difference in a championship or another bitter defeat.

All eyes will be on Campbell on Saturday, and he’ll be given every opportunity to come away with a starting spot.
