5. Which young players will step up as major contributors for Oregon?

A veteran core of players returns for 2019, and they will undoubtedly form the nucleus of the roster as Oregon looks to contend for the Pac-12 crown. But with so many young reinforcements from a top-10 recruiting class playing their first spring game, it will be interesting to see which ones step up and assert their right to a spot on the two-deep at their respective positions.

Wide receiver Mycah Pittman has looked like a star in the making throughout the spring, showcasing his superb hands and ability to break free from coverage. He could play a major role on offense this year and is definitely one to watch in the spring game. So too could freshman tight end Patrick Herbert, who could become a favorite target of big brother and incumbent starting quarterback Justin.

On defense, the big coup in recruiting was Kayvon Thibodeaux, who looked great in the Hillsboro scrimmage with a tipped interception and strong play throughout. The five-star recruit could be the linchpin for the new Avalos defense, as he provides size and speed on the edge in the flexible scheme. Thibodeaux will be joined by linebackers Dru Mathis and Ge’Mon Eaford as well as cornerback Mykael Wright in fighting for a spot in the two-deep in their last chance of spring ball.
