NFL Draft 2019: 7-Round Mock Draft projections for every team
Offensive improvements make the most sense for Buffalo after finishing 31st in the NFL in DVOA last season. That could lead them to a tight end like T.J. Hockenson or an offensive lineman like Jonah Williams with this selection. If they think that’s too high, then they could also explore a trade-back with many teams undoubtedly interested in moving up.
If they stand pat, Houston’s Ed Oliver would make sense. With Kyle Williams retiring, the Bills have a hole at defensive tackle, and Oliver’s ceiling is as high as any player in this draft class.
It wasn’t long ago that Oliver was considered a threat to be the No. 1 overall pick. Along with Nick Bossa, Oliver was 1A and 1B as NFL Draft prospects entering the 2018 season. Various injuries and some overblown character concerns saw Oliver’s stock drop some, but he’s too talented to fall outside of the Top-10 in my mind.
Oliver produced at a high-level for three seasons in Houston despite consistently being the focal point of offensive gameplans and dealing with double and triple teams at all times. Imagine how productive he could be when he gets the occasional one-on-one.
Oliver is a freak athlete, too fast for interior linemen to deal with. He’s got a quick first-step, and could come in and make a huge impact as a rookie. Like Quinnen Williams, he’s got the potential to be one of the top interior forces in the NFL.
