Rashan Gary. 10. player. 45. . DE/DT. Michigan

The Broncos have done their due diligence on the quarterbacks in this draft cycle, and they could draft one here even after trading for Joe Flacco this offseason. Flacco is 34, and is a short-term solution for Denver’s quarterback woes. Expecting him to be much of an upgrade over Case Keenum might be foolish after Flacco’s struggles in Baltimore.

If Dwayne Haskins gets past the Giants at No. 6, this would be a logical landing spot. Missouri’s Drew Lock and Duke’s Daniel Jones would also be heavily considered. I think it’s more likely, though, that the Broncos search for a player who could contribute next season as they look at getting back into the postseason. They could target a quarterback with their second round pick, or trade back into the end of the first round in hopes of landing Lock or Jones.

Michigan’s Rashan Gary showed his athletic prowess at the combine, and he’s one of the most intriguing players in this class. It’s fair to question why a player with such athletic ability failed to produce much at the collegiate level. He only had 9.5 sacks during his 34 game career in Ann Arbor.

He’s not likely to be much a difference maker off the edge in the NFL. His best fit is likely shifting inside to play as a defensive tackle in a 4-3 system, although he has the versatility to shift outside and play end in a 3-4.

I’m not overly sold on Gary as an NFL prospect, but he’s got plenty of supporters, and will likely end up being selected in the Top 10 on Thursday.
