NFL Draft 2019: 7-Round Mock Draft projections for every team
The Packers uncharacteristically spent a lot of money during the free agent cycle. The team approached the offseason with a sense of urgency as they look to take advantage of the remaining years of their Super Bowl window with Aaron Rodgers under center.
Edge rusher was long considered to be the team’s most pressing need, but that was addressed with the signings of Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith. They can now move on to secondary and tertiary needs in the draft.
If Green Bay hopes to get back into the playoffs after a two year absence, they need to surround Rodgers with more weapons on offense as well as solidifying his protection up front. Luckily, the Packers have two first rounds picks to do that with after acquiring the Saints’ selection in a draft day trade a year ago.
Alabama’s Jonah Williams and Oklahoma’s Cody Ford will undoubtedly get a hard look, but it would be difficult to pass on T.J. Hockenson here if he’s available. They could still find a quality offensive lineman with the 30th pick.
Hockenson is the most well rounded tight end in this class. His teammate, Noah Fant, might be the better receiver, but Hockenson is the total package. He’s an excellent run blocker as well as being a difficult matchup as a receiver.
Green Bay signed Marcedes Lewis and Jimmy Graham remains on the roster, but the need for increased production remains at the position. There’s no guarantee that either player is on the roster by the time we get to Week 1.
