NFL Draft 2019: 7-Round Mock Draft projections for every team
The Vikings should prioritize upgrades on the offensive line in the early goings of the NFL Draft. The team hoped that Kirk Cousins was the missing piece to get them into the Super Bowl, but he faced constant harassment from a subpar offensive line.
To compound the issues, they also had little in the way or a running game because the line struggled to open up holes to alleviate some of the pressure on Cousins and the passing game. Despite boasting a talented young running back in Dalvin Cook, Minnesota finished the season ranked 30th in rushing offense.
Oklahoma’s Cody Ford could help change that. Ford headlined a Sooners offensive line that won the Joe Moore Award as college football’s top offensive line. You’ll see several other Oklahoma offensive linemen in this mock. The unit boasted an unbelievable array of talent.
Ford was the leader of the group, blocking for Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray and opening up holes on the ground for three running backs that topped 900 yards rushing.
Ford has sky-high potential, and his versatility makes him one of the most coveted prospects in this class. If he shifts inside to guard, it won’t be because he can’t play tackle, it’ll be because he could be an All-Pro on the interior.
If they pass on an offensive lineman, they could address the other line-of-scrimmage with a defensive tackle like Clemson’s Dexter Lawrence here.
