2019 NFL Draft: 5 most surprising picks of Round 1
By Phil Poling
The biggest surprise of the first round at the 2019 NFL Draft wasn’t an NFC (L)East team taking a quarterback, because who actually cares about that division. Instead, it was the Pittsburgh Steelers moving up ten spots to draft Michigan linebacker Devin Bush.

Big deal, a team moved up in the draft. Under normal circumstances, you’d be right. But the Pittsburgh Steelers don’t typically make moves like this. Matter of fact, this entire offseason has been the complete opposite of what the Steelers typically do.
The last two times Pittsburgh traded up in the draft, they landed Troy Polamalu (2003) and Santonio Holmes (2006). Both ended up winning Super Bowls with the Steelers. Bush will immediately assume the role of inside linebacker, likely calling plays and making adjustments before the end of his first season.
Both Bush and the Steelers’ 2018 first round pick, Terrell Edmunds, have fathers that played in the NFL. This doesn’t mean that either will be great for Pittsburgh, but it’s nice to know they’ll have people to help steer them through the journey of the NFL.
