5. Bowling Green (Oct. 5)

Regardless of how well, or poor, Bowling Green’s season is going, many are going to make claims that Notre Dame will be on upset alert for this first week of October.

Well, they absolutely, positively are not. And here’s why.

First, the game is in South Bend. From personal experience, I can attest that playing at Notre Dame Stadium is one of the most difficult venues to win at in all of college football.

Secondly, the Bowling Green Falcons are coming off a 3-9 season with a brand new head coach, Scot Loeffler — this is Loeffler’s first head coaching gig, which rarely results in winning seasons, let alone an upset over a top-tier program, such as Notre Dame.

Lastly, the Falcons’ team defense was sixth from the bottom in 2018. I love the saying “defense wins championships”. It’s an age-old phrase that has stood the test of time, especially in college football. In this case, defense wins games. There is no way the Bowling Green defense plays well enough to slow down the Irish offense.

Final: Notre Dame 48, Bowling Green 3 (4-1)
