One of the guys competing for starting snaps at nose tackle had himself one heck of a spring and may have separated himself at the position. Tyler Shelvin looks like the man to beat for the starting job even though freshman Siaki Ika had an impressive spring, too.

Shelvin is one of the biggest guys you’ll see in college football this year, standing 6-foot-3 and weighing about 363 pounds. He’s a monster and just needs to continue playing up to his size. He’s incredibly difficult to block and he’s caught the attention of the coaching staff over the past few months after his redshirt freshman season.

The sophomore didn’t quite have the impact he wanted as a freshman in 2018, recording just nine tackles and 1.5 sacks, but he hasn’t even scratched the surface.

The LSU offensive line had a difficult time corralling him in spring practices and the scrimmage which made him seem like a more than capable No. 1 option at nose tackle in the 3-4 scheme.
