Tennessee Football: 5 players trending up after spring 2019
Currently rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 2 highest-graded returning quarterback in the SEC for 2019, Jarrett Guarantano had one of the strongest springs of any Volunteer player.
Guarantano was named the MVP of Tennessee’s spring game, going 19-for-37 with 198 yards and four touchdowns which is more than he’s ever had (touchdown-wise) in any of his games as a Volunteer. Sure, his accuracy could have been better, but he moved the ball down the field consistently and didn’t make any crucial mistakes.
Fans are hoping for him to take that next step after passing for 1,907 yards and 12 touchdowns with just three interceptions. That productivity is way lower than it should be for a starter in the SEC, but he has potential to break 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns and should get that done this season if he stretches his spring growth into the summer and fall.
Guarantano could be one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC and has a chance to take the conference by storm in 2019. He could help lead the Volunteers back to relevancy.
