Pick Analysis. QB. Joey Gatewood. 1a. Scouting Report. Freshman. player. 842

Remember when Auburn had a four-man competition for starting quarterback heading into spring ball? Well, it’s now trimmed to two and that’s because of how well Joey Gatewood and Bo Nix played. The former highly-touted athlete recruit turned quarterback is my pick for the starter this fall and he looked great during spring ball.

In fact, Gatewood had the best spring of any quarterback, completing 8-of-12 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns. He was accurate and his big frame makes him a Cam Newton-like dual-threat and that’s an exciting prospect for Auburn fans. The redshirt freshman did himself a big favor this spring, but he has a true freshman breathing down his neck.

Scouting Report. QB. Bo Nix. 1b. player. 842. Pick Analysis. Freshman

That true freshman is former four-star Bo Nix. He enrolled early this spring and has done a great job moving himself up the depth chart and past Malik Willis, showing off his skillset during the spring game. He finished the day with 155 yards and two touchdowns on 11-of-17 completions.

Nix put himself in a two-man battle for the starting job which is a big win for the true freshman. No one expected him to win the starting job right away, but he’s a few months away from making that a reality.
