1. Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson

Going into this season, no one will be more hyped than Trevor Lawrence. After coming in to start over Kelly Bryant last season, he quickly became one of the best quarterbacks in the ACC. After an amazing CFP performance against Notre Dame and Alabama, he became one of the best quarterbacks in the nation.

If teams don’t want to play as Alabama, they will be playing as Clemson. Lawrence has a star running back and plenty of talent at the wide receiver position. They will be a top-five offense in college football without a doubt. In fact, they will have a stake as the top offense in the nation.

The only thing that could hurt Lawrence’s chances to grace the cover with his Sunshine-from-Remember-the-Titans hair would be if he ended up not living up to the hype, and I don’t see that happening. He will be one of the top NFL Draft prospects in history once he is eligible in 2021.

Outside of talent on the field, Lawrence seems to have the personality that would be perfect for the cover. Among college football fans, he is one of the most recognizable names and faces in the sport. He’ll be the best player on one of the best teams, which always helps. There’s not really any big reason as to why Lawrence wouldn’t be on the cover.

With so many worthy candidates in contention, I would hope that NCAA runs multiple covers for the game. There are plenty of people that the fans would root for. In the end, I don’t think the cover really matters too much. Fans will buy the game even if it came in a paper sleeve with an athlete drawn on it in crayon. We just need our college football back.
