NCAA Football: 10 college football players who’d be next cover athletes
By Dakota Cox
7. Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon
Justin Herbert surprised many when he decided to come back to Oregon for one more season as opposed to going to the NFL Draft. He had the potential to be a top quarterback in this class, but he will also be a top quarterback in college football this year. He will be running the improved Oregon offense, in those nice uniforms, and many will want to play as him.
Herbert is more of a typical quarterback, but he still has a lot going for him. If he played for a team on the East coast like Ohio State or Clemson, he would be the talk of the nation. Unless you’re Marcus Mariota, being a top quarterback at Oregon is extremely tough. Herbert tries his best, but people just don’t stay up in the East to watch Oregon games.
However, you’d don’t have to wait to play as Oregon in NCAA Football. If this game comes out, Herbert would be incredibly talented in the pocket. With recent recruiting classes, there should be a lot of talent. If Herbert develops this year, he might compete for a Heisman. Even if he doesn’t, he will be a fan favorite.
Expectations will remain high for Herbert since he decided to come back to Oregon, but he should live up to them. Even if he doesn’t, he has already done enough to prove himself as a top quarterback. He might not always have the stats, but he has the talent, and he will be a great player for the game.
