Ole Miss Rebels: Reach bowl eligiblity

I’m sure it is a disappointment to Ole Miss fans that this has to be their goal, but that’s the world we live in right now in Oxford. Due to some NCAA violations, the Rebels have not been bowl eligible in a while. They also had some wins revoked from previous years. Their last bowl game was when they won the Sugar Bowl in 2015.

I know it is hard to recruit and develop talent while under a bowl ban, but the ban has been lifted. The Rebels will finally have a chance to make it to a bowl, assuming they find a way to win six games.

In Matt Luke’s first two seasons, he went 6-6 and 5-7. The 6-6 year would have gotten him to a bowl game if they were eligible for one, but they were not. Now that they are, the Rebels simply cannot miss one due to a lack of wins.

Another issue for the team is the fact that they will be replacing so much talent on offense. Without Jordan Ta’amu, A.J. Brown, and D.K. Metcalf, most of the familiarity from last season will be gone. Those are three holes that will be nearly impossible for the team to fill.

I’m not expecting much from this team, but they they were too close to six wins last season to give them any goal less than making a bowl game. I’m not sure if they can get it, but I think they will have to if Matt Luke would like to remain the head coach at Ole Miss.
