South Carolina: Upset Alabama, Clemson or Georgia

This might not be a “realistic” goal exactly, but you can’t start the season with three guaranteed losses on your schedule if you want to be one of the best teams in the SEC East. South Carolina has an experienced coach, and they need to find a way to win one of these three games.

Their first opportunity will be at home against the Crimson Tide in Week 3. The last time Alabama came to South Carolina, they lost against Alshon Jeffrey and company. Perhaps the Gamecocks can find some of that magic against Tua Tagovailoa, Jerry Jeudy, and the potent Alabama offense.

Georgia will be a road game for South Carolina, which will be tough. Despite losing a lot of talent at the skill positions, the Bulldogs will be returning Jake Fromm, and there is no reason to believe he can’t play well no matter who is playing alongside him.

Obviously, Clemson will be one of the toughest opponents South Carolina plays all season. It is their rivalry game, so that helps with familiarity between the teams. Last season, South Carolina was able to score 35 points on the Tigers on the road thanks to some magic from Jake Bentley. The Gamecocks will need a little more magic this year from their senior quarterback if they want to get past Clemson.

It will be tough to have to play three of the best teams in the country, but that’s the situation South Carolina is forced in. There’s not much they can do besides prepare for it and hope to get through at least one of these teams with a victory.
