Texas A&M: Become a top-two team in SEC West

Since Kevin Sumlin left the Aggies two seasons ago, things have been starting to trend up. The hiring of Jimbo Fisher was great for the trajectory of this program. He has recruited very well in the state of Texas, one of the most talented states in terms of high school recruits in the country. The Aggies were technically tied for second in the SEC West last year, and it is time for them to take the next step and get into the top two outright.

If you’ve looked into the upcoming season at all, you’ve probably heard that the West will be a monster with two heads. There will be the big head that represents the LSU Tigers, and the larger, more terrifying head that represents Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Texas A&M should have a goal of replacing LSU as the second head.

The Aggies were able to upset LSU in a thrilling seven-overtime game that literally changed the rule books. This season, they will have to come to Death Valley and probably play in a night game. They also will have to play Alabama and Georgia, with the Bulldogs being a road game.

No one is saying that it will be easy for the Aggies to overcome this schedule and be top-two in the SEC West. I do believe that it’s possible, however. They have the coaching talent, the recruiting ties, and the development of skill on the roster.
