Kentucky Wildcats: Develop Terry Wilson

Kentucky had one of the most successful seasons in the school’s history last year. There aren’t many reasons to believe that they can catch lightning in a bottle twice. They also lost a lot of talent that made that team successful, including Benny Snell on offense and Josh Allen on defense. Having a strong running game and defense last year made the job of quarterback easier, but that will not be the case this season.

Terry Wilson was a mobile quarterback for the Wildcats last season, but he was only responsible for 15 touchdowns. He also had eight interceptions, which is a dangerously high number for a running quarterback with a quality running back that received the bulk of the carries.

To show his efficiency at quarterback, the team won every single game where Wilson threw the ball less than 20 times. In each of their three losses, they threw the ball more than 20 times. Clearly, the team did worse when they had to rely on his arm.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, they might just have to rely on his arm this season. If the only thing that increases for Wilson is his usage, this will be a disappointing season for Kentucky. They will need for his abilities as a passer to develop as well.

Hopes are high in Lexington, Kentucky, but they are on the shoulders of a quarterback who simply cannot throw the football efficiently. There will be hope that he develops, and he will simply have to.
