3. Tom Herman has recruited extremely well

Texas is one of the greatest states to recruit in college football. Any football program in or around the state of Texas has an advantage over the rest of the country. For teams like Texas, Texas A&M, Houston and TCU, there has to be a priority on holding onto in-state talent. Texas has failed to do that in recent years, but Tom Herman seems to be righting that ship.

In Herman’s first year as the head coach, he managed to recruit nine of the top 12 players from the state of Texas, including the top two. These recruits paired with plenty of others got Texas to the third-best recruiting class in the nation and the best in the Big 12. These players will be sophomores this season, and a lot of them will be key players for the Longhorns in 2019.

In 2019, Texas got the third-best class once again. This year, however, they managed to recruit more of the talent from out of the state, including Bru McCoy from California. If these first two seasons are a sign of what’s to come for Texas, hopes should be incredibly high.

It’s not like Texas has just always gotten a top recruiting class, either. Their last top-5 class was all the way back in 2012. In terms of recruiting alone, one thing is clear: Herman must be protected at all costs.
