1. Alabama is Dabo’s home

There are tons of reasons for Dabo Swinney to come to Alabama, and there are tons for him to stay at Clemson. However, one reason above all should make Swinney consider the University of Alabama: it’s his home.

Swinney was raised in the state of Alabama. He walked on with the team as a wide receiver at UA. Although he never got a ton of playing time, he spent his college career in Tuscaloosa. He even got his first experience on a coaching staff as a grad assistant under Gene Stallings at ‘Bama.

No matter what Dabo does in live, he’s going to be a ‘Bama boy at heart. Tuscaloosa never really leaves you, even if you leave it. This is why the rumors of Dabo going to Alabama even started in the first place.

It’s always hard for coaches to say no to a job offer where they went to college. It’s why Kirby Smart will probably retire at Georgia. It’s part of the reason why David Shaw hasn’t left Stanford for a coaching job. It helped Michigan convince Jim Harbaugh to go back to college as a coach. There’s no place like home.

If all things are equal, I think Swinney might choose to go home. Like Bear Bryant once said in his introductory press conference at Alabama, “Mama called, and when Mama calls, you have to come running.”
