3. Jafar Armstrong breaks Ferguson’s single-season rushing record

One of the biggest questions surrounding the Irish in the summer of 2018 had to do with exactly how the team would replace workhorse running back Josh Adams. With the likes of Dexter Williams, Tony Jones Jr. and Jafar Armstrong on the roster, there was a fair share of uncertainty in regard to who would carry the mantle for Notre Dame in the fall.

With Williams suspended for the first four games of the season, it was up to either Jones or Armstrong to establish himself as a start-worthy option to open the year. Armstrong, who opened the year hot but lost some momentum due to injury, and Jones, who ended up complementing the former throughout their split, both gave way to Williams once he returned from his suspension.

Fast forward to the summer of 2019 and Armstrong is in line to absorb the majority of available carries this season. The junior looked as explosive as ever in the 2019 Blue-Gold game and has all but established himself as the workhorse for the upcoming season.

Assuming Armstrong remains explosive and healthy, Vagas Ferguson’s 1979 single-season rushing record may be within his grasp.
