College Football: 5 schools at risk of going winless in 2019
By Shane Lunnen
3. New Mexico State Aggies
Winning does not come naturally for the New Mexico State Aggies. Last season they regressed by losing four more games than they had lost during the 2017 season. They will need to fight hard to avoid losing more this season.
The Aggie offense was stuck in neutral most of last season. They averaged a paltry 371 yards and 25 points per game. Both the passing and running games struggled, gaining very little momentum throughout a 3-9 season.

The defense was perhaps even worse than the offense. The front seven was pounded by opposing offenses and they gave up over 1,000 yards on the ground last year. Overall the defense gave up 476 yards and 41 points per game. To make matters worse, five of the team’s top eight tacklers are gone this season. The guys left will need to find a way to make stops this season.
The FBS Independent Aggies have a brutal September. Road trips to Washington State, Alabama and rival New Mexico plus visits from San Diego State and Fresno State. The Aggies could easily be 0-5 after the first month. New Mexico State also has Ole Miss on the road in early November. Even Incarnate Word is not a guaranteed win.
New Mexico State must at least a split of their two games against Liberty (here is an interesting article from Sports Illustrated on why the two schools are playing twice in the regular season). UTEP is also a winnable game, but not guaranteed.
