Alabama Football: Top 5 seniors for Crimson Tide in 2019
By Dakota Cox
Matt Womack will probably start on the offensive line for the first game of the year, but I’m not certain if he will be a starter the entire year. Deonte Brown’s return from suspension will shift some players around, but Womack has the versatility to play multiple positions. He isn’t necessarily a great linemen, but he is a great piece for a championship team to have.
Womack’s versatility is very helpful if any linemen get injured. Womack certainly isn’t the best, but he is great as a backup, and he is functional as a starting piece. He will start at right guard in replace of Alex Leatherwood, who is moving to left tackle.
Once Brown comes back, I’m not sure if Womack will continue to be the starter or if someone will come and fill his spot for him. He is still a senior leader for this team, and he is one of the few seniors on the offensive side of the football.
Most of the talent on offense comes from the junior class at skill positions, so having a senior on the field helps when things go bad. If Womack becomes a consistent starter for the Tide, he might be a candidate to be a co-captain this year.
Alabama usually has at least one veteran offensive lineman as a captain, and Womack would fit the bill for them in 2019.
