3. Phillip Webb, 4-star OLB
Defense is always a priority for Clemson, and it starts with the pass rush. Phillip Webb would give them a key piece at outside linebacker. He has the ability to stand up and use his speed to get to the quarterback, and it’s what makes him one of the top outside linebackers in college football.
Webb is going to likely have to gain some weight to his frame to play as an outside linebacker in college. He usually plays without his hand in the dirt, but his speed makes up for that. At the college level, it will be harder for him to simply blow by offensive linemen. His speed is certainly an advantage, but it won’t be enough.
Webb is hoping to commit by the end of the summer, but there hasn’t been a lot to signal where he will go. Clemson has 100 percent of the Crystal Balls for him, but there are currently only two in total. Webb has been visiting other schools recently, including Alabama and Florida. Clemson is great at recruiting, so you can never rule them out of top prospects.
Webb is from the state of Georgia, but he surprisingly doesn’t have Georgia listed on 247Sports as a top team. Alabama and Auburn have the best odds, but neither of them have received a Crystal Ball. I would definitely consider him up in the air, and Clemson could definitely use him.
The Tigers currently have no outside linebackers in the recruiting class. They haven’t recruited the position that hard in 2020, but they would still love to land Webb if at all possible.
