West Virginia Football: Breaking down QB battle for 2019
Jack Allison looking to take next step
Pros
- This will be his third year at WVU
- Backup last year who started in the bowl game
- Tall quarterback, no problem seeing the field
Cons
- Even with the bowl game start he has minimal on field experience
- Transferred from Miami and Miami’s quarterback position has struggled the past few years
- Like Kendall, not a lot of actual game footage to evaluate besides the bowl game
In Allison’s lone start last year, he showed some good things, yet also struggled at times. He has a strong arm and looks good when he is comfortable in the pocket and steps into his throw.
During the bowl game, he looked off target on several throws, and didn’t look very comfortable in the pocket. However, he still fought, took some hits, and gave WVU a chance to win the game going into the fourth quarter.
Below is a clip of Allison completing a pass against Syracuse in their bowl game. Even though the ball was under thrown, any time you convert on a third-and-7 to keep the drive alive when your team is down is a positive thing.
Let’s take at the third quarterback in the race now.
