From Compton, to Kansas, to a store near you. Former ‘Last Chance U’ coach Jason Brown has released the title and cover of his new book.

Never one to shy away from controversy, former Independence Community College head coach Jason Brown is about to be back in the headlines. The polarizing star of the Netflix docuseries ‘Last Chance U’ resigned last February after a text exchange between him and a player went viral.

Screenshots of the conversation, which was posted on Instagram by the athlete, showed Brown calling the player a “German f***” and stating “I’m your new Hitler”. Shortly after the exchange made headlines, Brown released a statement saying, “Given what has recently been allowed to transpire, it is clear, that it will be nearly impossible to stay here”.

Now some four months later, the controversial head coach is about to make another splash after signing a book deal with Strategic Book Publishing and Rights Agency (SBPRA).

The book, which has not publicly been given a release date, will be titled “Hate Me Now Love Me Later” and will obviously have a picture of Brown screaming on its cover.

Despite his rough around the edges approach, Brown captivated audiences last summer when Season 3 of the Netflix docuseries was first released. Born and raised in Compton, Calif., the coach’s backstory and use of tough love with his players made him an overnight star.

According to Brown, after the show first aired he had “4,000 emails just in my inbox… I had to shut off all my social media on my phone. It literally shut off my phone to where it wouldn’t do anything. I want to thank the ladies out there because they’re blowing me up too. I guess I said I was single at one point on the show… so that’s been interesting, to say the least”.

The love for Brown is evident on Twitter, where he now has nearly 40,000 followers, but he has stated that all of the fame does not phase him. “I’m not a rockstar, I’m just a coach, man. It’s crazy, I didn’t think it was this big”.

Despite a stellar season in 2017, Brown and the Pirates endured a dreadful 2-8 run prior to his resignation in 2018. Netflix cameras were there for it all and the anticipation of witnessing what went wrong in the Compton native’s final year at Independence is at an all-time high. Season 4 of ‘Last Chance U’ is scheduled to premiere this coming July.
