2. The secondary is a major concern — still

Texas A&M had a decently strong defensive line a season ago. They were ranked among the tops in the Southeastern Conference throughout the year. However, it was the secondary that was the issue for the Aggies and that hasn’t really changed throughout the spring.

Did they show some good throughout 2018 and through spring practice? Sure. There we quite a few great plays made, but it wasn’t good enough — it wasn’t consistent. Texas A&M ranked 106th nationally in team passing defense efficiency allowing 253.2 yards per game through the air.

There are quite a few returners, though one key safety is now dealing with an assault case that could change his availability for at the very least the start of the year. The cornerback rotation was ineffective most of last season.

Overall, I have yet to see enough to know that this unit is going to be better this season. Despite four additions to the unit — one of which is a veteran JUCO cornerback transfer — it will still be a concern until I see growth and development of the players already on the field.
