Alex Delton also brings experience

Alex Delton is a senior transfer from Kansas State and may be the most intriguing guy in the competition. He spent the last few years competing with quarterback Skylar Thompson at Kansas State where he started multiple games in 2017 and 2018.

In those two years combined, he had five passing touchdowns, four interceptions and threw for over 1,100 yards with a completion percentage around 56.

Where he is most dangerous is as a runner. In fact, Delton had 500 yards rushing in 2017 and has had over 700 yards rushing over the last two years with 10 touchdowns on the ground.

While Delton may not be the answer long-term, I expect him to have a role on this team, even if it is just a certain package used here and there due to the threat of his running ability. However, his experience could help him potentially start out under center.

What Delton would bring as a starter

  • Experience
  • Running ability
  • Knows the Big 12 Conference
  • Not a proven passer, but has shown glimpses

Below is a clip of Delton demonstrating his ability as a runner. Whatever Delton’s role ends up being for TCU, he will help bring some production to TCU’s offense.

Gary Patterson may go with more of a passing threat which would leave Delton out of the race.
