9. Will Muschamp, South Carolina

South Carolina has had its breakout season for the last two years. How long will the Gamecock faithful stay patient?

According to 247Sports, Paul Finebaum of the SEC Network doesn’t think Will Muschamp’s seat is very hot because they are blaming former coach Steve Spurrier for the recruiting hole they’re in. However, expectations have been high for the last two years and they have yielded disappointing results.

After a nine-win 2017, the 2018 campaign was supposed to be the year they contended in the SEC East. They had Jake Bentley who was supposed to be one of the better quarterbacks in the conference and wide receiver Deebo Samuel who was supposed to be one of the best wide outs in the conference. Some even picked them to beat Georgia in their conference opener. Not only did they get blown out at home, they didn’t look nearly as talented as the Bulldogs.

Book end that with a 28-0 trouncing at the hands of Virginia in the Belk Bowl and the fact that Muschamp has never beaten Kentucky (yes, in football) you have a seat that should be warmer than what it is.

They might be better, but so is the rest of the division. Florida is already a threat to Georgia in Dan Mullen’s second year, Tennessee might be a year or two away, but Jeremy Pruitt’s squad is a tough out, and Georgia is, well, Georgia.

Given the Gamecocks’ crossover divisional schedule (Alabama, Missouri and Texas A&M) they are going to have a hard time finding six wins this season. His assistants got extensions, so Ray Tanner and the South Carolina brass are all in on Muschamp’s regime, but another seven-win season and the regime might be under some heat.
