4. Boise State Broncos

Given that an undefeated Boise State would not earn an opportunity to play in the College Playoff, the Broncos are No. 4 in this list.

Boise State’s moxie and returning talent make it a decent bet to run the table in 2019. The Broncos went undefeated twice in recent memory — in 2006 and in 2009 under current Washington coach Chris Petersen.

That first squad, of course, was the famous Fiesta Bowl-winning squad against Oklahoma, followed by the on-field wedding proposal. Don’t expect the exact same theatrics this time around, but don’t be surprised if the Broncos have a trick up their sleeves to avenge their conference title loss to Fresno State last season.

True, the Broncos lose four-year starter Brett Rypien, who graduated as the Mountain West’s all-time leading passer with 13,578 yards. A deep group of wide receivers, though, will help the new signal caller adjust. Many believe sophomore Chase Cord, who has shown some impressive running in limited opportunities, will get the nod at quarterback.

Boise State’s schedule includes a “neutral site” game in Jacksonville against Florida State on Aug. 31 and a late road trip to Utah State. The Aggies are fresh off an 11-win season and are the squad that most expect to challenge Boise State for Mountain West supremacy. Other than these two games, don’t expect the Broncos to encounter too much resistance as they break in a new quarterback in a revenge-themed 2019 campaign.
