College Football: Top 30 skill position players for 2019 season
By Dakota Cox
Justyn Ross doesn’t have the stats that some of the receivers behind him got in 2018, but this was for a few reasons. Ross was a freshman on a team with plenty of great wide receivers, so it took time for him to work up the depth chart. Clemson also had Kelly Bryant as their quarterback to start the season, and he was more of a mobile threat than an amazing passer.
Despite the early struggles, Ross found his groove late in the season. Two of his three games with 100-plus receiving yards were in the College Football Playoff, and he scored three of his nine touchdowns in those two games as well.
Ross ended the year with 1,000 yards on only 46 catches. Without Hunter Renfrow (NFL) and Amari Rodgers (injury), there will plenty of more targets going Ross’s way. With Trevor Lawrence as his quarterback the entire season, it makes sense to expect Ross to easily get more than 1,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. He will be in contention with the other top receivers to lead the country in almost every stat.
The scariest part about Ross is that he is just a sophomore this season. Opposing teams are going to have to figure out how to stop him for at least the next two years, and he is only going to get better along the way. Expect him to create highlights in almost every game he’s in over the next two seasons.
