Will Auburn football’s offense be improved with a true dual-threat quarterback this season? Let’s take a look at the quarterback battle.

The Auburn quarterback competition is a topic that has been talked about since the end of the 2018 season. Not only has the quarterback competition been a topic of discussion, but head coach Gus Malzahn has been its own topic of discussion as well.

It seems like Auburn is always one of the most talked about teams every offseason, which probably has a lot to do with their large and passionate fanbase. However, this year has multiple storylines that makes Auburn such an interesting program to keep up with.

Malzahn seems to be on the “hot seat” every other offseason. This is one of his on the “hot seat” offseason’s coming off an eight-win season and only three wins in the SEC.

In my opinion, he should have some time to develop one of their young quarterbacks over the next few years and see if they can make a run to get into the playoffs in the next few years. With that said, I want to focus on the quarterback position and leave the Malzahn talk for other people.

During spring ball, Joey Gatewood, Bo Nix and Malik Willis were the three quarterbacks being talked about the most for the starting job. Since the end of camp, Malik Willis has entered the transfer portal and the starting job seems to be between Gatewood and Nix. Gatewood will be a redshirt freshman and Nix will be a true freshman going into 2019.

Patience will be a must as whoever wins the starting job will need time to develop, but will have to learn on the fly.
