Auburn Football: Breaking down Tigers’ QB battle for 2019

Guz Malzahn will have a big decision to make

A lot of Auburn’s success in 2019 could rely heavily on who the quarterback will be. The inexperience of each guy can make the Auburn fans nervous, but the potential of each guy will make the Auburn fans excited.

Both are dual-threat guys who will fit what Gus Malzahn wants to do on offense. He will be able to use either one of them to run his offense, as their mobility will help open up the offense and give the defense something else that they have to be prepared for. The only question is who will run the offense better.

Joey Gatewood has one more year of experience than Bo Nix, but the latter was the higher rated recruit with a ton of publicity coming in. Both guys have a lot of upside and it is up to Malzahn to figure out which guy will be able to put them in the best position to win this year and long term.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see both guys play this year with Nix pulling away at some point and establishing himself as the starter. At the risk of contradicting myself, Auburn does open up with Oregon in 2019 so it would be ideal to have a set starter while preparing for that game.

With that said, regardless who ends up being the starter, Auburn will continue to be one of the most talked about teams in 2019.
