Alabama Football: 5 former players the Tide will miss most in 2019
By Dakota Cox
4. Ross Pierschbacher
Offensive line success is crucial for Alabama every year. This year might be more important than the ones before it. Tua is known for having injury concerns, and the offense will go back to a pro style. You also add in the fact that Alabama doesn’t have Jalen Hurts to replace Tua if he goes down. It is vital that his jersey remains as clean as possible, and that falls on the offensive line.
Ross Pierschbacher wasn’t the best offensive lineman from last season, but his role was more necessary. Jonah Williams was a freakish talent at left tackle, but he will be replaced by a proven talent in Alex Leatherwood. Leatherwood made a name for himself in the National Championship Game against Georgia when Williams was injured, and he has played well since. He had to play at guard this season, but he is made to be left tackle.
With the shift of Leatherwood, the entire interior offensive line is in flux. Left guard Deonte Brown will be suspended early in the year, making fans wonder if he will start when he returns. Someone will have to replace Leatherwood at right guard.
Then you have to deal with replacing Ross Pierschbacher at center. He was a leader with tons of experience, and he was a strength for the offensive line. Alabama seems to be happy with his replacement Chris Owens, but Pierschbacher brought so much for the Tide both on and off the field.
