NFL Draft: Biggest strengths and weaknesses of 2020 class
By Dakota Cox
Strength: Quarterback
Quarterbacks will always be drafted in the first round, whether they deserve to or not. Last year, three quarterbacks were drafted in the first 32 picks. This year, there are three that have a great chance to be drafted in the top five selections.
One of the top quarterbacks in 2020 is Justin Herbert. Herbert was expected to be QB1 in the 2019 class before deciding to return for his senior season. With another year, he will likely expand his resume and become an even better prospect.
However, Herbert likely won’t be the top prospect in 2020. He will be competing against Jake Fromm and Tua Tagovailoa. He has elite touch and leadership, and Fromm has a great arm. Both appear to be locks to go in the first 10 picks, assuming they have seasons that approach what they’ve already done in college.
Outside of the top three prospects, you also have plenty of guys who have a chance to grow this season. Whether it’s Jacob Eason getting a second chance at Washington, Kelly Bryant at Missouri, or Jalen Hurts at Oklahoma, there will be some quarterbacks that work their way into the first couple of rounds.
I’m not saying that this class has the talent of the 2017 draft class that included Deshaun Watson, Mitch Trubisky, and Patrick Mahomes, but it is still a great class that has potential to get greater.
