Previewing the defense

The Temple defense will miss Michael Dogbe and his seven sacks from last year, and we know that Rod Carey coached teams get after the quarterback.

Remember Sutton Smith and Josh Corcoran combined for 25 sacks for Northern Illinois. Any time you can get to the quarterback without blitzing, that allows you to be more creative with your coverage.

Temple needs another playmaker to step up alongside junior Quincy Roche and his six sacks. That will help them cover up their weaknesses in the secondary.

Although they had 18 interceptions, their leading ball hawk, Delvon Randle, graduated. Statistically, the Owls were second in total defense, and third in points allowed. However, in six games last season they gave up three touchdown passes or more, so they are going to have to limit that.

If seniors Benny Walls and Keyvone Bruton can replace the production of Randle and Baylor transfer Harrison Hand mixes in well, they should be pretty good on the back-end of their defense.
