Lincoln Riley talks… defense?
Lincoln Riley was the last to speak on Monday, as the reigning Big 12 champion that only feels appropriate. He started off his remarks talking about how being at media day gets him energized to start the season. He also spoke about changes to defense by bringing in Alex Grinch as defensive coordinator and changing their defensive scheme.
The third-year head coach was asked about the Kennedy Brooks situation right out of the gate. He pointed to the statement that was made by the university and reiterated that he was not involved in decision and that Oklahoma takes situations like this very seriously.
He was asked about how Alex Grinch and the change in defensive scheme has changed anything on a day-to-day basis and Riley stated that he and the defensive staff did a good job in the spring laying foundation of what they wanted to do schematically on defense for the players. He added that it was a step-by-step process and the goal is to get better each day.
In day two of Big 12 Media Days there are five more coaches going to take the podium. It is also a chance for five more universities to showcase their football programs. Among those that will be in attendance on Tuesday will be Tom Herman, Matt Rhule, Chris Klieman, Neal Brown and Matt Campbell.
