Matt Campbell, Iowa State

Matt Campbell started off his remarks by mentioning the four seniors that he brought with him to media days saying they are part of 21 players in their final year that helped with the rebuild. He mentioned that he focused on where he can continue to build and grow within Iowa State football program and also talked about how excited he is for the season

Campbell talked about growing the culture and building it with player driven leadership from inside out. Not worrying about what is said outside of Iowa State and focusing on inside of program. He spoke about managing expectations mentioning that if he worried about them at first, they would have crumbled and that inside the program they have higher expectations than outsiders have.

On top of that, he was asked about losing David Montgomery and how to replace him. He mentioned that due to some circumstances they had to play without Montgomery last year which allowed others to gain experience and they will contribute this season. He mentioned what he’s looking for is a complete running back to emerge similar to Montgomery.

When talking about offensive line he mentioned how it is good to have so many returning starters and how the tight end helps with offensive line and how integral that position is.

The Iowa State coach was asked about having three different quarterbacks in three seasons. He mentioned how exciting it would be to finally have a returning quarterback and to build an offense around the skillset of Brock Purdy.
