Tom Herman, Texas
Tom Herman opened up his press conference by talking about how it was nice to have uneventful offseason — any coach would agree. He went on to talk about how kids were working hard getting bigger and faster.
Concerning a winning now mentality versus patience, he mentioned that he has been blessed with administration that is championship-driven. He talked about being ahead of schedule in getting Texas back to where it needs to be.
Herman was asked about Zach Shackelford and he mentioned that he is bigger and stronger that when he arrived he also went on to talk about his leadership. He went on to say he is as good a center as there is in the country. When asked about how offense will change with departure of Andrew Beck, Herman mentioned that Cade Brewer as being a candidate to take on role that Beck had fulfilled.
Herman was asked why tight end was such an important position in his offense and he said it’s a pro-spread and that they run NFL concepts in run block scheme and passing game. The only difference is that they run it from shotgun and make defenses defend mobile quarterback.
Lastly, there was chatter about the Texas A&M rivalry being renewed and he mentioned that he’d love for it to return but he doesn’t know what needs to happen to get it renewed.
