Schedule and predictions

All these predictions are made under the impression that there will be no injuries, suspensions or anything affecting whether a player can play or not. Obviously this can all change before or during the season, but let’s break it down like everything is normal for each team and at the end of the season we can see how right or wrong we were.

  • Game 1: vs. Abilene Christian (W) — UNT takes care of business against an FCS school.
  • Game 2: at SMU (W) — UNT beat SMU last season and will do the same this season, even though the score will be closer this year.
  • Game 3: at California (L) — UNT plays California close but California pulls away in the 4th.
  • Game 4: vs. UTSA (W) — UNT gets its first conference win of the year.
  • Game 5: vs. Houston (L) — Houston’s quarterback is too much for UNT’s defense to handle.
  • Game 6: at Southern Miss (W) — Close, close game here, but Fine leads them to a W.
  • Game 7: vs. Middle Tennessee (W) — Middle Tennessee will be breaking in a new quarterback and UNT will take care of business.
  • Game 8: at Charlotte (W) — Close game, but Charlotte’s offense wont keep up.
  • Game 9: vs. UTEP (W) — UNT takes care of business.
  • Game 10: at Louisiana Tech (W) — One of the toughest games of the year. If quarterback J’Mar Smith is as good as I think he will be this year, the Bulldogs could win, but for now I will take UNT.
  • Game 11: at Rice (W) — UNT takes care of business.
  • Game 12: vs. UAB (W) — Again, another close game that could go either way. UAB won at home in 2018, so I will take UNT for the simple fact that they are at home this year and Fine is under center.

I have North Texas going 10-2 during the regular season with a trip to the CUSA Title game. With Fine going into his senior year, and head coach Seth Littrell going into what could be his last year before a Power 5 school plucks him away, this is UNT’s best shot to win the conference.
