Offense will be led by Jordan Love in 2019

Utah State’s quarterback Jordan Love heads into the 2019 season as one of the more polished quarterbacks in his class. Most college football fans have heard of him by now, but if for some reason you haven’t, make it a point to check him out this year.

In 2017 he took over the starting job midway through the season, but it was the 2018 season (his sophomore year), that he really burst onto the scene.

Admittedly, I did not know much about him until Utah State’s opening game last year against Michigan State. Love stuck out as the best football player on the field and nearly led Utah State to an upset over the Spartans — they ended up losing 38-31. Since that game I made it a a point to keep up with Love and he ended up having a monster season last year as he set the school record for passing yards and passing touchdowns in a season (3,567 yards, 32 TDs).

I could write a whole article breaking down Love, but instead, I will leave this video here that shows his effortless throwing motion and accuracy.

The offense in 2018 put up video game like numbers as they had two games where they had over 700 total yards and they even set a Mountain West record with 618 points in a season. They scored 30 or more points in every game but three last year.

Anytime an offense is that productive, it’s hard to replicate the following year. With Love at quarterback the offense should be just fine and have continued success.

However, they have to replace several starters on the offensive line and lose their top four leading receivers and their top rusher from 2018. Utah State will rely heavily on Love to help break these new starters in.

Even if there is a drop-off in Utah State’s offense in 2019, it will still be one of the best offenses in the Mountain West thanks to its quarterback.
