Gamecocks must weather nation’s toughest schedule

It’s unavoidable. Everyone in college football knows, as exciting as this roster may be, know that the 2019 schedule is brutal. They get the two premier programs in the country, in Alabama and Clemson. They’ll also play Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, along with the rest of the SEC East. Out of conference, they’ll meet Mack Brown’s North Carolina. The week that the rest of the SEC is playing an FCS team, the Gamecocks will host eleven-win Appalachian State.

As seemingly every team around the Gamecocks gets better and better, many are beginning to write off South Carolina’s status among these teams. Will Muschamp disagrees.

As a coach, garnering motivation for your team is a big part of the job. Openly being referred to as the little brother is the best bulletin board material Muschamp could ask for.

Besides, “little” isn’t the best word to use for this team. Quarterback Jake Bentley is a senior. The top three running backs on the depth chart are seniors. Seniors start across the defensive line and at two of the three linebacker position.

The Gamecocks know they aren’t just a little brother. Against the toughest schedule in the country, they’ll have ample opportunity to prove that.
