SEC Football Media Days 2019: One big takeaway from each team
Georgia has Alabama in their sights
Two years in a row, Kirby Smart’s team has come just shy of defeating Alabama and claiming the SEC for themselves. Two years in a row, Nick Saban has held onto his throne atop the conference.
While the SEC East is quickly improving, and Georgia can’t ignore that, the Crimson Tide are still the measuring stick. Until they defeat Alabama, Georgia will still be number two in the SEC.

One advantage for Georgia is that there is no quarterback battle this year. At previous SEC Media Days, there’s always been questions about Fromm. in 2017, he was expected to be the backup. It was Jacob Eason’s team. Now, Eason is at Washington.
In 2018, so many questions were asked about Fromm and Justin Fields. Was it inevitable that Fields’ talent would vault him over Fromm? Fields is now at Ohio State.
Through all the quarterback controversy, Fromm has been Georgia’s rock. He has the reputation of game manager, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Game managers don’t let their offense’s sommit stupid procedure penalties. Game managers don’t turn the ball over. The offensive coordinators of game managers are often comfortable to let the running game be the foundation, and the passing game to be an extension of that running game.
Fromm still threw 30 touchdowns in 2018 and came just shy of 3,000 yards. It isn’t an insult to call him a quarterback that can manage a game well.
After all, Alabama feasts on turnovers. They thrive on opposing offenses making mistakes. If Georgia is to conquer Alabama, Fromm may be the right guy.
